My name is MaryJean Zajac. I’m a mother, a grandmother, a widow and a writer.
Where do I begin? I was married at a young age, only 20 years old. Before long, I had a house, a husband, two boys and a dog. Life seemed good until my husband lost his job. Returning to work with no formal education; a decent paying job was hard to come by. Deciding to go back to school, I was a student again at 44. What a shock to my system. These students were my son’s age, but I did it. Receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies in less than four years. While working full-time at a law firm I pursued my graduate degree in Library Science, graduating at fifty-years-old. While working in the Litigation field for a few years a position opened up at the State University of New York at Buffalo, locally known as UB. It was for an Immigration Paralegal position, and I got the job.
After working for 17 years at UB I retired in December 2017. My husband passed away six months before I retired. It was a lonely time for me. Trying to keep myself busy with household chores and meeting friends. I happened to come across a meet-up group, as they are called. This particular group, called “Baby Boomers” got together to enjoy fun activities, such as, going bowling, a dinner train ride and an activity night. Then in the Fall of 2018 he came into my life. We met at a Halloween party given by one of the other groups and met up a few times after that at different events. We enjoyed talking to each other, seemed to have a lot in common. Soon we were dating and in January of 2022 after dating for a little over three years we decided to move in together. Never would I have thought I would find love again. It’s like we were meant to be together. This website and the books I have written are because of him. He encouraged me to join a writer’s group and rallied behind me to keep going. There is a smile on my face again. If there is such a thing as a love story than this is my love story. I will end this tale with a quote by Harriet Tubman. “Every great dream begins with a dreamer.” For sure, I am a dreamer.
